For about five consecutive days starting April 2, 2025, a substantial number of patent applications from SoftBank Group were publicly disclosed, bringing the total since January 2025 to over 10,000. This achievement positions SoftBank Group at the forefront in Japan, surpassing industry giants Toyota and Canon, who typically rank first and second in public listings. It is expected that SoftBank Group will maintain its number one position until December. This record number of applications is likely to be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The content of these inventions is quite intriguing. Based on what I have seen in the public disclosure notices, the applications include:
- Information leakage prevention (a system designed to monitor the PCs of employees who may pose a risk)
- Measures against unproductive salespeople
- Insider trading prevention measures
From another perspective, this situation also highlights the capabilities of patent attorney offices in drafting numerous specifications and the administrative efficiency required to file 1,000 applications in a single day. For more details, please refer to the article published on April 4th in Nikkei Xtech titled "The Patent Meister's Angle." A more in-depth analysis is currently in the works.
